The Role of an Alumni Ambassador
The Alumni Ambassador at Cal program provides opportunities for alumni to support student admission efforts to recruit and enroll a competitive and diverse student body. As an alumni ambassador, you are the “face of the University” for the students and parents whom you will assist. You may be the first and only representative of UC Berkeley whom they will meet, so it is important that you make a positive and professional impression and that you use the resources provided to present accurate information.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Complete the required training provided by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA)
Familiarize yourself with all the training materials and brochures provided by OUA
Punctual and professional attendance to the event(s) you commit to attending
Hand out brochures and any other material provided by the University
Answer questions regarding the University and admissions process
Describe your own experience with UC Berkeley as a student/ alumni
Refer students and their families to other sources of information, especially the UC Berkeley Admissions website
Represent UC Berkeley in a respectful and professional manner to students, parents, and fellow alumni
Provide feedback to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions on your volunteer experiences
Actively participate in volunteer opportunities
Complete volunteer wrap up items, including submitting fair evaluation forms and promptly returning any items belonging to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, such as table banners and leftover brochures/materials
Abide by NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice
Qualifications
Graduate of UC Berkeley
Must feel comfortable talking about the UC Berkeley undergraduate experience
Must not work as a college admission professional, independent college counselor, or college counselor at a community based organization
Must be willing to stay up to date on the admissions process
Completion of the training provided by OUA
Restrictions
You are not eligible to participate as an Ambassador with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions if you:
Have a child who is in their last year of high school, whether or not they plan to apply to UC Berkeley.
Are a college admission professional (including a high school guidance counselor or independent consultant)
Are engaged in volunteer or professional undergraduate admissions activities for another institution.
These requirements are designed to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest. Volunteers are asked to update their eligibility status as appropriate to their circumstances.
The Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Alumni Program Manager reserve the right to review and restrict participation.
Time Commitment
Your time commitment will be dependent on your availability and the availability of events within your region. In general, outreach and recruitment events can last anywhere from 2-4 hours. Alumni ambassadors that commit to attending events are expected to be present and engaging for the events entirety.
Please note that the Office of Undergraduate Admissions cannot guarantee that there will be events needing coverage nationally or within your region.
