The Role of an Alumni Ambassador
The Alumni Ambassador Program at UC Berkeley provides opportunities for alumni to support student admission efforts to recruit and enroll a competitive and diverse student body. As an alumni ambassador, you are the “face of the University” for the students and parents whom you will assist. Often, you will be the first and only representative of UC Berkeley whom they will meet, so it is important that you make a positive and professional impression, and that you use the resources provided to present accurate information.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Attend the required and mandatory training provided by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA)
Familiarize yourself with ALL training materials and brochures provided by OUA
Punctual attendance to the event(s) you commit to attending
Hand out brochures and any other material provided by the University
Answer questions regarding the University and admissions process
Describe your own experience with UC Berkeley as a student
Refer students and their families to other sources of information, especially the UC Berkeley Admissions website
Represent UC Berkeley in a respectful, professional manner to students, parents, fellow alumni, and campus partners
Provide feedback to OUA on your volunteer experiences in a timely manner
Actively participate in volunteer opportunities
Complete volunteer wrap up items, including but not limited to: submitted fair evaluation forms, promptly returning any items belonging to UC Berkeley OUA (table banners, leftover brochures or materials)
Abide by the
NACAC Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission
Qualifications
Must be a graduate of UC Berkeley
Must feel comfortable talking about the UC Berkeley undergraduate experience
Must
not
work as a college admission professional, independent college counselor, or college counselor at a community-based organization
Must be willing to stay up-to-date on the admissions process and attend all required training by OUA staff
Must complete all of the training provided by OUA before participating
Restrictions
You are
not
eligible to participate as an Alumni Ambassador with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions if you:
Have a child who is in their last year of high school, whether or not they plan to apply to UC Berkeley
Are a college admission professional (including a high school guidance counselor or independent consultant)
Are engaged in volunteer or professional undergraduate admissions activities for another institution
These requirements are designed to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest. Volunteers are asked to update their eligibility status as appropriate to their circumstances.
The Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Assistant Director of Admissions, Alumni Engagement Liaison reserve the right to review and restrict participation.
Time Commitment
Your time commitment will be dependent on your availability and the availability of events within your region. In general, outreach and recruitment events can last anywhere from 2 - 4 hours. Alumni ambassadors that commit to attending events are expected to be present and engaging for the events’ entirety.
Please note that the Office of Undergraduate Admissions cannot guarantee that there will be events needing coverage within your region.
